SHY and AFTER PARTY have been selected through a direct commission to design 8 ha area in Linnanniemi. The Harbour City of Turku will form the framework for a new urban development where past and present merge. The City of Turku organized a one-stage international architecture competition regarding the masterplan of Linnanniemi in 2020. The winning proposal "Three Pieces" visioned the Harbour City as a gateway of Turku and a new maritime hub welcoming many visitors throughout the year. The area, besides ensuring efficient and diversified city and archipelago connections, also combines variety of services, turning the area from a merely logistical transfer point into a destination with sustainability and innovation at its core. The competition was arranged in cooperation with the Finnish Association of Architects (SAFA). The historically and culturally important Linnanniemi area will be a hub of year-round urban culture, where you can simultaneously experience history, the sea and the most beautiful archipelago in the world. People will be attracted not only by the medieval landmark Turku Castle but also wide range of services, outdoor recreation areas extending to the shore, various maritime functions and the Museum of History and the Future that will be opening in 2029.
