SHY and AFTER PARTY have won a masterplan competition to design historically and culturally important city district for Linnanniemi area in the heart of Finland's oldest city, Turku. We are excited to announce that our masterplan proposal for the development of the port area of 34 ha territory surrounding one of the most impressive medieval jewels in Finland, Turku Castle, was selected as the winning scheme among 127 entries. The historical Linnanniemi area will be a hub of year-round urban culture, where you can simultaneously experience history, the sea and the most beautiful archipelago in the world. The development of the area will progress step-by-step. The first new buildings in the area will be the joint terminal building, which will be completed in 2026, and the Museum of History and the Future, which will open its doors when Turku turns 800 years in 2029. With its approximately 120.000 m² of hospitality, office, commercial, public and residential program, Linnanniemi is visioned as a new prominent gateway and destination of Turku with sustainability and innovation at its core. The competition was arranged in cooperation with the Finnish Association of Architects (SAFA). We are very much looking forward to making these visions come true.
