The urban planning director of the city of Turku, Timo Hintsanen, suggests in Turun Sanomat (TS 30.10.2020), that the principles for the zoning of Linnanniemi would be based on the winning proposal "Three Pieces". The proposal would define the location of the Museum of History and the Future that will be opening in 2029. The location would also ensure the continuation of an attractive urban development all the way to the Western tip of Linnanniemi. The existing park surrounding the Turku Castle would be extended to the Aura River as a "New Castle Park", while the residential construction would be concentrated in the Forum Marinum area due noise pollution in the port. A reference plan will be designed for the entire area, and an architecture competition for the new museum building and a landscape architecture competition for the extended Castle Park would be held. According to the current scheme, the reorganization of the ship terminals will free up the land area comprising Turku Castle, its surroundings and the western bank of the mouth of the Aura River, and become the link between the city and the vast archipelago. The masterplan of a joint terminal building for the shipping companies is currently under preparation within the Ferry Terminal Turku project and the building is scheduled to be ready by 2026.
