SHY and AFTER PARTY have put forward plans for a 75.000 m2 masterplan scheme next to the Turku Castle in Finland. The site consists of the largest surviving medieval castle in all of Scandinavia, Aura riverfront of the vibrant, growing city and a new maritime hub welcoming many visitors throughout the year. The Harbour City of Turku is an urban planning project designed to define Turku Castle as the main protagonist of the area and create a mix of programs that ensure 24/7 activity in an important and vibrant mobility hub that serves the specific needs of people in transition as well as the needs of local residents. With its approximately 75.000 m² of hospitality, office, commercial, public, parking and residential program, the Harbour City of Turku is visioned as a new prominent gateway of Turku, ensuring the efficient and diversified city and archipelago connections and turning the area from a merely logistical transfer point into a destination with sustainability and innovation at its core. We are very much looking forward to developing the ambitious visions for this historical area of Turku even further.
